At Aranzadi Ikastola, our doors are open if you would like to enrol your son or daughter at our school. To do so, the official deadlines must be met, as applications submitted outside those dates will follow the extraordinary procedure.
Children can be enrolled at the Haur Ikastola at any time. For Early Childhood Education, Primary Education and Secondary Education, the pre-enrolment period for the 2026-27 school year is from 2 to 13 February. Pre-enrolment for Baccalaureate, however, usually takes place between March and April.
DOCUMENTATION
There are two ways to formally complete pre-enrolment. The first is to do it online, independently by the family. The second, which we recommend, is to do it at the Ikastola secretary’s office, with the support of the administrative staff. If you choose this option, it is best to call in advance (943 76 90 71) and arrange an appointment, so that we can provide more personalised attention.
The documentation to be brought is as follows:
- A photocopy of the parents’ ID cards.
- Household cohabitation certificate.
- The student’s birth certificate and/or family book —for all siblings, if applicable—.
- [If applicable] Large family book.
- [If applicable] If the student or someone living with them has a disability, a document proving that situation.
- [If applicable] If the child/adolescent is in foster care, a document confirming that situation.
- [If applicable] If they are a victim of gender-based violence or terrorism, a certificate confirming this.
PROCEDURE
The procedure after pre-enrolment is the responsibility of the Department of Education, and the Ikastola has neither decision-making power nor responsibility regarding the decisions made by the administration.
In cases where places must be allocated through a scoring system due to a limit on the number of places or the vulnerability rate, the Ikastola may allocate 1.25 points among candidates. Specifically, 0.25 points for being a member of the cooperative, and one point for an objective criterion decided by the school. In this regard, by decision of the Governing Council, the point will be awarded to families who already have a son or daughter at the Ikastola before pre-enrolment; for example, in the EI 0-1 stage or at another level —as in the case of those who go abroad to study and wish to return to the Ikastola the following school year—.
OUR IKASTOLA MODEL
To learn more about Aranzadi Ikastola’s educational model, its Basque identity, the parent cooperative, universal access and many other topics, here are the statements of several members of the Ikastola. By clicking on each person’s photo, you can watch the videos.
Iraitz Salegi, Secondary Education teacher.
💬 “We have launched a process called ‘Bagoiaz’. We are a school that covers the 0-18 age range and, within that logic, we are building a complete paradigm shift: a major change in worldview and transmission.”
Garazi Diaz, Ikastola parent.
💬 “Every morning we see that our children come happily to the Ikastola, because they feel loved and safe here. We are very proud and happy to be part of the Ikastola community.”
Andoni Izagirre, Ikastola parent.
💬 “Community is the most important thing at the Ikastola, because being a cooperative made up of people from Bergara puts decision-making power in our own hands.”
Idoia Ramirez de Ocariz, Early Childhood Education teacher.
💬 “The 0-6 stage is based on care: with its challenges, demands and small everyday gestures. The wellbeing, safety and love of children and families are our foundations.”
Amets Txintxurreta, student.
💬 “Auzolana is something we see less and less in our society; I think it is important for the Ikastola to promote actions like this.”
Iñaki Manuel, Ikastola parent.
💬 “The Ikastolas are committed to a strong identity and a shared national project, based on the values of cooperation and diversity.”
Leire Urzelai, parent and member of the Governing Council.
💬 “What brings us together is our attachment and commitment to this project, and contributions can be made in many different ways.”
Gorka Ugalde, parent companion.
💬 “We want the children and young people of Bergara to be conscious Basque speakers; our aim is the comprehensive transmission of Basque identity. Ours is a minoritised language, and we work from that perspective.”
IKASTOLEN ELKARTEA
The 115 ikastolas of Euskal Herria make up Ikastolen Elkartea. Our aim is precisely to preserve and strengthen the Basque language and Basque culture, beyond the administrative borders of our country. We have a shared educational and national project, and with the Basque Curriculum at its core, we create and develop our own pedagogy and teaching materials.
