Psychomotricity practice is a practice that aims to support children’s psychological maturation through movement. Psychomotricity is one of the foundations of a child’s life. In order for children to experience harmonious development, it works on play, free expression and spontaneity.
There are three main objectives: firstly, to help the child open up to the world through communication and relationships. Secondly, to give the child the opportunity to build and experience a creative world through play. And finally, to offer resources so that children can experience an autonomous growth process and build confidence in themselves.
The aim of psychomotricity practice is to offer children a carefully studied and prepared space, so that they can develop their own resources to address the psychological maturation processes needed for healthy development.
In this space there is a professional with solid and rigorous training in different attitudes, such as listening, empathy, support, welcome, holding, safety and the ability to sustain actions, as well as in children’s movement and play, and in their understanding and meaning.
Every single child aged 2, 3, 4 and 5 at the Ikastola has a weekly educational psychomotricity session during school hours, with a professional psychomotrician. However, we also offer it as an extracurricular service, as this discipline is of great importance in Aranzadi’s pedagogical project. Psychomotricity practice is, in fact, based on the pedagogy of spaces and times: in the psychomotricity room, children can develop a process that takes them from the pleasure of playing and moving to the pleasure of thinking.
